According to the satellite TV channel Supersport, officials said they were expecting Eto'o along with Newcastle United ace Geremi Njitap to arrive Tuesday morning but neither player did.
Both the South Africa Football Association (SAFA) and FECAFOOT, the Cameroonian football federation, had assured the presence of the two players.
Wednesday's match is in honour of South Africa's political icon Nelson Mandela. It will serve both teams to prepare for upcoming tournaments.
Bafana Bafana will host the FIFA Confederations Cup in June 2009 before they stage the World Cup a year later, while the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon are getting set for the joint qualifying tournament for the 2010 World Cup and the Africa Cup of Nations in Angola.
