According to The Sun, Moratti will telephone Blues owner Roman Abramovich within the next two days to up Inter’s offer for Lampard to ₤9million.

Negotiations officially opened earlier this week when the Nerazzurri entered a ₤6.5million bid for the England midfielder but the west London club have remained reluctant sellers, causing the figure to gradually rise.

It was thought the ex-West Ham man would be a far from unattainable target following the arrival Portuguese playmaker Deco at Stamford Bridge, but Abramovich and co appear unwilling to sell to their former ally, Inter boss Jose Mourinho.

The Special One is confident of landing his man sooner or later, however, as Lampard has refused to renew his contract with Chelsea, which expires at the end of next season.
