Six weeks before the start of the 2008/09 Bundesliga season, Werder Bremen goalkeeper Tim Wiese has come out on the attack stating that Werder are ripe for the German league title.

“I’ve been here three years now and finished third, and been runner up twice.  The time has come for us to be on top- we are ready for the title” he vowed.

The 26 year old however has declared himself unimpressed by the innovations being introduced at Bayern by new trainer Jürgen Klinsmann such as an eight-hour day, and new relaxation areas.

“Klinsi has supposedly erected a ‘wellness temple’ with Budha statues around the walls.  It’s nice to look at, but we’ll have to wait and see the effect it has” he joked.

The opinionated keeper has also stated that he expects to see a few more signings at the Weser Stadion before the summer is over.  Werder have thus far signed Euro 2008 participant Sebastian Prödl, Bosnian international Said Huseinovic, and young defender Niklas Andersen.

“There has to be another top quality striker arriving, because we have lost Ivan Klasnic” he said.

He also is looking for a midfield addition following Tim Borowski’s move to Bayern Munich.
