The Romanian international ends months of speculation surrounding his future by putting pen to paper and signing until 2012.

Mutu was set to leave the Artemio Franchi before the club’s owners stepped in to shackle him.

He is now delighted at having resolved the questions around his purple reign and he believes he made the right choice as he reveals that his aim has always been to stay in Florence.

“I am delighted at having remained with Fiorentina,” Mutu told La Repubblica.

“I am happy because it ended in the way I wanted. There were contacts with Roma and Fiorentina.

“However, the important thing is that we were able to resolve everything by reaching an agreement over my wishes.

“I wanted to remain here more than anything to be an important part of this project.”

Mutu was in stunning form last term and his goals helped his side qualify for the Champions League.

It took the whole summer for La Viola to finally satisfy his demands. Reports in Italy suggest his improved deal will see him earn an extra €180,000 per season.
