There is great hope in Italy that with the post-Calciopoli
climate starting to fade away, next season could spawn an exciting title race
between a number of teams at the top.
During an interview with the Gazzetta dello Sport, Fiorentina boss Cesare Prandelli was asked for his predictions for the coming campaign.
“The two favourites for the title are Inter and Juve,” Prandelli stated.
“I confess, I am curious to see how [Jose] Mourinho will do in Italian football. As for the Bianconeri, they are hungry, so therefore they are even more dangerous. Juve are close to Inter.
”Behind them are Roma and Milan. We [Fiorentina] are not in the race for the Scudetto but we are in the group for the Champions League.
“My challenge, however, goes beyond the standings. I have a dream that Fiorentina become the team for the neutrals. I have met so many Milan fans who have told me: ‘Mister, you knocked us out of the Champions League this year but in Europe we will support you.’ It would be nice if we became the second team of everyone.”
Fiorentina finished fourth in Serie A last campaign, thus piping the fifth-placed Rossoneri to the final Champions League slot.
