The Romanian international seemed reluctant to accept what the Viola were offering him and this raised new questions over his future in Florence as well as fuel speculation that he would leave.

La Viola have always stated their intentions not to sell the player but they were also resistant to Mutu’s wage demands.

Studio Sport claims that a deal has been reached and the player will sign a new contract on Friday afternoon.

A meeting will take place in Florence between the player’s agent, Alessandro Moggi, Mutu, and Fiorentina sporting director Pantaleo Corvino.

It is believed that Mutu will extend for the next three years and this latest development is likely to lead to a cool off of interest from other clubs including Roma who had designs on the striker.

The Romanian was sublime last term and his goals ensured La Viola squeezed past Milan into the Champions League leaving the Rossoneri red faced.
