Huntelaar, however, is remaining coy over any speculation as he prepares for his country's World Cup quarterfinal against Costa Rica.
“Regarding the rumors about Liverpool it would only be fair to speak to Schalke first,” he told De Telegraaf. “I've talked with Schalke about an extension for a while. After the World Cup I am having a holiday. Then I will speak to them again.
“With my agent, I now do not talk about the interest from clubs. I focus on the tournament.”
Huntelaar, 30, who scored in Netherlands' 2-1 victory over Mexico in the round of 16, hit 14 goals in 21 appearances in all competitions last season.
He joined Schalke for 14 million euros in August 2010, but any sale is likely to be considerably less than that sum, with his current contract due to expire in June 2015.
