Vincent Kompany insists he has no plans to leave Manchester City but revealed he was close to joining Barcelona earlier in his career.
The Belgium defender and club captain is currently contracted to the Premier League club until 2017, and he is close to signing a two-year extension.

Barcelona has been a long-term admirer of Kompany, and the 28-year-old has revealed past approaches from the Liga giant but confirmed there has been no interest of late.
"I've been close a few times to signing for [Barcelona], there was contact," he told Mundo Deportivo. "But in recent times, I can officially assure you there has not been anything that I know of."
City's hierarchy sees Kompany as a possible future executive at the end of his playing days, and the 28-year-old has revealed he has no intention of departing the Etihad Stadium and the "attractive" project at the club.
"I have a current contract with Manchester City, I am very comfortable," he said. "We have won the Premier League, we have a serious and attractive project. It is not in my plans to leave the team."
