San Jose picks up veteran German defender Andreas Gorlitz

The former Bayern Munich wingback joins the Major League Soccer side after a long career in Germany.
The San Jose Earthquakes have signed former Bayern Munich right back Andreas Gorlitz, the club announced Tuesday.

The 32-year-old wingback previously spent all of his career in his native Germany, playing for both 1860 Munich and Bayern Munich, as well as Karlsruher and FC Ingolstadt. He made two appearances for the German national team in 2004.

“Andreas is an experienced veteran that has played at the highest level in Germany and with the German national team,” Earthquakes coach Mark Watson said in a statement on the team's website. “He has trained with us over the past month and has shown that he will be a good addition to our squad. We are happy to have him in San Jose.”

Earthquakes general manager John Doyle praised his new addition's attacking instincts, saying “Andreas is an excellent right back with a ton of experience. He’s great at getting forward and we’re excited to have him join the club.”
