Seattle has loaned its Colombian forward for a second time, with Sporting Lisbon having the option to purchase his contract permanently.
The Seattle Sounders have loaned their Colombian forward for a second time this year, sending him to Portugal giant Sporting Lisbon, the club announced on Monday. Terms of the loan were not disclosed in the Sounders' announcement, but Sporting has the option to purchase Montero's contract outright. Rumors of a full purchase by Sporting had been swirling for weeks prior to the transaction.
The 25-year-old Montero scored a franchise-record 47 goals and had 34 assists in four seasons with the Sounders, and he spent the last six months on loan with Colombian side Millonarios. He had the chance to play in the Copa Libertadores with Millonarios and led his side with seven goals in 21 league games.
