The 36-year-old midfielder is a free agent, with AC Milan having decided against offering the former Italy international a contract extension, and he is now set to move to the Artemio Franchi on a free transfer. Soccer By Ives reported Saturday that the NASL's New York Cosmos have also been in talks with Ambrosini, trying to lure the veteran to the United States.
"Massimo will be here next week and I think that we're in the home stretch," Ambrosini's representative, Moreno Roggi, told Lady Radio. "We're only waiting for Fiorentina to call us.
"Florence is indeed a popular destination, not only for him but also in Europe; just think of the cases of [Mario] Gomez and [David] Villa."
Ambrosini, who was capped 35 times by the Azzurri, joined Milan from Cesena in 1995 and won four Serie A titles and two Champions Leagues during his time at the San Siro.
