Benfica completes Sulejmani signing

The 24-year-old completed his move to Portugal from Ajax on Tuesday to join compatriots Lazar Markovic and Filip Djuricic in Lisbon.
Benfica has completed the signing of Ajax attacker Miralem Sulejmani on a free transfer, making him the third Serbian to arrive at Estadio da Luz this offseason.

The 24-year-old Sulejmani has signed a five-year deal with the Portuguese giant, which will keep him with the capital club until 2018, much to the disappointment of Wolfsburg, Besiktas, Everton and Borussia Monchengladbach - all of whom were said to be keen on swooping for the Serbia international as he prepared to leave Amsterdam on a Bosman transfer.

Sulejmani, who arrived in the Dutch capital from Heerenveen in 2008 for a club-record fee of 16.2 million euros, struggled to justify the price tag throughout his five-year stay with the reigning Eredivisie champion, and he made only eight appearances for Frank de Boer's side this past season.

Sulejmani will be joined in Lisbon by compatriots Lazar Markovic and Filip Djuricic - both of whom completed moves to the Europa League finalist this month - as well as midfielder Nemanja Matic.
