The Super Eagles have started their summer transfer plans early with the acquisition of one of Europe's top emerging talents.
The 21-year-old midfielder had attracted interest from Ajax and FC Twente, but the Portuguese side has beaten the two Dutch clubs in the race for the young Serbian's signature. The transfer fee and the length of the contract on offer are not yet clear, but the transfer has been confirmed with Heerenveen passing on its best wishes to the player.
Technical director Johan Hansma made the following statement on the club's official website:
"It's good for Heerenveen that Djuricic is leaving for a big European club. As football fans we regret the departure of Filip, because he gave us a lot of beautiful moments. Filip is ready for his next step in his career. We wish him all the best."
Benfica qualified for the final of the Europa League with a 3-1 home victory over Fenerbahce to seal a 3-2 aggregate win. The Super Eagles will face reigning European champion Chelsea in the final at the Amsterdam ArenaA on May 15.
