The former defender says the Serie A leaders should pursue Napoli's Uruguayan forward rather than the Paris Saint-Germain striker.
The Serie A leaders are poised to clinch the Scudetto in the coming weeks but rumours suggest coach Antonio Conte is already on the look out for attacking transfer targets in a bid to bolster his forward line.
Speculation linking Ibrahimovic with a switch back to Turin continues to grow, but former Italy defender Materazzi believes the Bianconeri would be better off pursuing another sought after striker.
"For me, Juventus would become more clinical with Cavani rather than Ibra," the 39-year-old former international told reporters. "As I see it Conte places importance on possession while Ibrahimovic is more of a finisher.
"When there are strong characters in the squad there is not a problem. Maybe you quarrel in the week but at national level he has always done well."
Ibrahimovic has scored 28 goals in 29 Ligue 1 appearances for Paris Saint-Germain this season, while Cavani is the top scorer in Serie A with 23 strikes to his name.
