Despite rumors of interest from Celtic, the Chivas USA youngster will remain in North America through when the January window closes on Thursday. After seeing two of its top young stars depart for Europe during the January transfer window, Major League Soccer can breathe a sigh of relief.
Juan Agudelo is staying in North America.
A source close to the Chivas USA striker told Goal.com that the 20-year-old American will remain in MLS despite strong interest from Scottish side Celtic.
"It's not going to happen in this window," the source said late Wednesday night.
The transfer window closes on Thursday. MLS is expected to lose FC Dallas' Brek Shea to Stoke City after watching D.C. United's Andy Najar depart for Anderlecht on Wednesday.
With one year remaining in his contract, it was expected that MLS would sell Agudelo for a lower cost because he can sign a pre-contract with six months remaining on his current MLS pact. Now, with Agudelo remaining with Chivas USA, there will be plenty of questions on what his role with the team will be.
Agudelo had three goals and three assists in 20 games with Chivas USA last season.
