Toronto FC has traded forward Joao Plata to Real Salt Lake in exchange for a second round pick in the 2015 MLS SuperDraft. Plata had been on loan to Ecuadorian side LDU Quito.
The Ecuadorian scored 10 goals in 52 appearances in all competitions for Toronto after the club selected him 49th overall in the 2011 draft.
In July, Plata spent six months on loan with LDU Quito in Ecuador.
“While Plata is a player our fans enjoyed watching, he did not figure in our plans moving forward,” said Toronto FC president and general manager Kevin Payne in a club statement. "It made sense for our club to move him for value as we can continue to build the team we want. We'd like to thank him for his contributions to the club and wish him all the best with his new team."
