The veteran striker, who has also had a spell in England's top flight with Newcastle, has also been linked with a move to Stoke over the summer, although there is yet to be any agreement between the two parties.
Potters boss Tony Pulis has recently spoken of his admiration for the former Real Madrid player, and has not ruled out a move for the striker who has scored over 150 goals in the Premier League.
"Michael hasn't gone anywhere and it's still a possibility," Pulis told reporters. "There's still stuff happening and going on. Whether we can do a deal or not is another matter."
