Kanoute leaves Sevilla for Beijing Guoan

The 2007 African Footballer of the Year has officially ended his seven-year spell at the Spanish club to sign a two-year deal with the Chinese giants

Sevilla has announced that striker Frederic Kanoute has left the club to join Chinese Super League side Beijing Guoan.

The Mali international revealed earlier in the week that was assessing his options, with the Middle East, China and the United States all suggested as possibilities.

And he has now signed a two-year contract with the Chinese capital club, which currently sits third in the Super League, seven points adrift of leaders Guangzhou Evergrande.

Kanoute signed for Sevilla in 2005 after two years at Tottenham, and became an iconic figure at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan, netting 136 goals in 290 matches.

During his time in Spain, the 2007 African Footballer of the Year helped Sevilla to win two UEFA Cups, one UEFA Super Cup, two Copa del Rey trophies and one Spanish Supercopa.
