thumbnail Hello,

The former Italy international thinks that the Brazilian defender is a vital part of the team and admits that the Rossoneri are struggling in the financial department

Sion midfielder Gennaro Gattuso has praised AC Milan's decision to reject Paris Saint-Germain's bid for Thiago Silva.

"Berlusconi has demonstrated by keeping Thiago Silva that he still loves Milan, regardless of the financial situation of the economic group that he owns," Gattuso told Radio Mana Mana.

The Rossoneri had seemed resigned to losing the Brazilian stopper after receiving a 46 million euros bid from PSG, but club president Silvio Berlusconi decided on Thursday evening that the player would not leave.

It also was revealed that Berlusconi himself would pump into the club the money they would receive from Thiago Silva's sale, a decision that Gattuso has applauded.

"There are not many clubs who can reject an offer like this. Antonio Cassano was right about what he said: Thiago Silva is a very important player," Gattuso said.

He added, "Milan has few financial resources, the mistake about letting Andrea Pirlo leave has been made. It is undeniable, but Milan are paying the price for the crisis of the Berlusconi group."

Gattuso, who signed a two-year contract with Swiss side Sion earlier on Friday, then revealed that he passed up the opportunity to remain in Italy.

"I did not want to play at another Italian club after Milan," the 34-year-old explained. "I had so many offers from Italian clubs, but this is not what I wanted."
