thumbnail Hello,

The 21-year-old moves to the Austrian Bundesliga in search of more playing time.

Terrence Boyd has signed with Rapid Vienna for undisclosed fee, according to the club's official website.

The 21-year-old, who is considered to be a top prospect for the United States national team, joins the Austrian side from German Bundesliga champion Dortmund.  His contract runs through 2015.

Boyd was one of Dortmund's standouts in its second team, scoring 20 goals and adding five assists for Dortmund II. Many speculated that with Lucas Barrios heading to China that he would have become Robert Lewandowski's backup (or a potential starter if Lewandowski leaves) at striker for the upcoming season.  However, it was clear that Boyd felt his development would be better if he was a consistent starter at Rapid.

Rapid's coaching staff has big plans for the forward.

"It was not an easy task to undertake Terrence Boyd, as a result of his strong performances in the second team from Borussia Dortmund and selected as a team player in the U.S.," Rapid manager Stefan Ebner told the website. "All the more pleased that he has chosen for Rapid and signed a three-year contract."

While Austrian league isn't as strong as any of the top five leagues in Europe, Boyd should be able to develop his confidence by scoring goals. Rapid also plays in the Europa League which will allow Boyd to gauge himself against higher competition. It is likely that he consulted with U.S. manager Jurgen Klinsmann before making the move.
