thumbnail Hello,

The veteran German midfielder has been given the option to leave the BayArena before the end of the season, having fallen out of favor with coach Robin Dutt

Michael Ballack's days at Bayer Leverkusen seem to be numbered with the club's CEO Wolfgang Holzhauser inviting the former Germany captain to terminate his contract.

"Our contract with Ballack runs until June 30. If he wants to get out early, we can certainly discuss that," Holzhauser told Focus.

The 35-year-old has been dropped from Robin Dutt's first team in recent weeks and has also been criticized by Holzhauser for his sub-par performances, with the club already conceding that the veteran will be leaving the BayArena in the summer.

However, it seems as though Ballack could depart the BayArena sooner, with Holzhauser stating that it was a possibility, should the player want it.

Ballack, who rejoined Leverkusen from Chelsea in 2010 on a free transfer, missed the Champions League defeat to Barcelona with a hamstring injury and is still at least two weeks from fitness.
