Diskerud moves from Stabaek to Belgium, where he hopes to impress enough to earn a permanent move.
Diskerud, 21, joins Gent from Stabaek of the Norwegian top-flight after spending four years at the club. He played in 81 games with Stabaek and scored 10 goals, becoming a key starter in the last two seasons.
Recently, Stabaek fell on difficult financial times, forcing it to consider offloading many of its top players.
The Norwegian-born player has been capped twice by the full U.S. national team. He is currently in contention for a spot on the U.S. Olympic team that will begin qualifying matches for London 2012 in late March.
Gent is currently tied for second place in the Belgian Pro League, seven points back of Anderlecht, which employs American Sacha Kljestan.
