Report: Bayern Munich failed in move for Borussia Dortmund-bound Marco Reus

The Bavarians were keen on signing the Germany international, but could not guarantee regular appearances, prompting the Monchengladbach man to choose BVB instead

Bayern Munich made a move for Borussia Monchengladbach attacker Marco Reus, but failed to secure the 22-year-old's transfer, according to a report from Kicker.

The Bavarians allegedly made contact with Reus, but negotiations broke down after the club declined to guarantee playing time for the Germany international, who would have faced stiff competition from Arjen Robben, Thomas Muller, and Franck Ribery.

Bayern was long rumoured to be interested in Reus, and made no secret of its interest in the player. However, in mid-December, CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge opined that Reus should stay at Gladbach, asserting that the pressure of playing for the German record champions would be too great.

Last week, Reus confirmed his summer transfer to Borussia Dortmund, having agreed a five-year contract with the Bundesliga title holders.

This season, Reus has scored 13 goals and provided five assists in 18 games in all competitions.
