New York Head Coach Hans Backe: No European Interest In Red Bulls' Players
Hans Backe insists that none of his players will be leaving for Europe as the transfer window draws to a close despite speculation over the future of Macoumba Kandji.
By Alex Labidou
With the European transfer window closing on Tuesday, New York Red Bulls coach Hans Backe reiterated tonight that there is no formal interest in any players on the roaster from aboard.
"No," said Backe. "It's only rumors started by agents trying to sell their players to poor clubs in Europe."
There were rumors recently circulating that teams in the Greek league and the English lower divisions were interested in towering forward Macoumba Kandji. The 6'4" striker has made his interest in playing aboard very apparent but many have questioned whether or not moving to a Greek team not named Olympiacos, AEK Athens, PAOK or Panathinaikos would actually be beneficial.
Kandji might be better suited to playing in New York considering the heightened amount of attention from the marquee signings of Thierry Henry and Rafa Marquez. There are a lot more people watching Red Bull games and Kandji should be able to stand out easier to European scouts.
