Earthquakes Acquire Bobby Burling From Chivas USA
The San Jose Earthquakes acquired defender Bobby Burling from Chivas USA on Friday.
The San Jose Earthquakes acquired defender Bobby Burling from Chivas USA on Friday in exchange for a third-round draft pick in the 2010 MLS SuperDraft.
Burling is a three year pro who has started 23 matches for Chivas USA, but has yet to make his mark as a weekly starter for the club that he signed with in his rookie year.
The 6'5 defender spent most of his college career as a striker for Loyola Marymount University and led the team in scoring as a senior despite moving to the back line. As a pro Burling has yet to score, but the Earthquakes are hopeful that he can fill a number of roles for the squad.
“We are excited to add a young player of the caliber of Bobby Burling to our roster,” said General Manager John Doyle. “He brings great size and strength to our backline. He is also versatile player who can fill multiple positions at the back and even play up front.”
