Guardiola: Chygrynskiy Is The Player Barcelona Need

The Blaugrana coach has told the press that the Ukrainian defender has the qualities he is looking for in a center-half.

Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola told a press conference the reasons why he is so keen to bring Shakhtar Donetsk defender Dmytro Chygrynskiy to Camp Nou.

"He has some things in a central defender that are hard to find," said Guardiola.

"He knows what to do with the ball and he is a young player."

Guardiola says that signing the 22-year-old Ukraine international will be difficult as Shakhtar president Rinat Akhmetov "does not want to sell the player".

Negotiations continue between the clubs and Chygrynskiy sat out his side's 2-0 victory over Turkish side Sivasspor on Tuesday night, which suggests a deal may be imminent.

Guardiola is wary but proud of the fact that six of his players are nominated for UEFA awards, which will be presented in Monaco before they contest the Super Cup final against Shakhtar on Friday.

"It's not a comfortable situation, we go [to Monaco] to win the final, not to collect awards but the players deserve it so hopefully they do win," added the Blaugrana coach.
