Everton have signed Brazilian striker Jo on a season-long loan deal from Manchester City, the Citizens' official website has confirmed today, with the player returning to the club where he enjoyed a successful five month loan spell last season.

The striker scored five goals in 12 appearances for the Toffees, after enduring a frustrating time at Eastlands after making a £18 million switch from Russian outfit CSKA Moscow.

Jo has been with Everton on their pre-season trip to Scotland over the last few days, after undergoing medical tests at the Merseysiders' Finch Farm training ground.

The South American had been widely expected to leave Eastlands, after City signed Roque Santa Cruz to add to a long list of strikers available to manager Mark Hughes, and Jo should relish the opportunity to link up with David Moyes at Everton once more.

This latest move seems to make more unlikely reports that American Clint Dempsey will join his countryman Tim Howard at Everton - at least for this next season.
