Javier Hernandez has spoken of the importance of the two away goals Manchester United scored at the Amsterdam Arena in their Europa League clash with Ajax on Thursday.

The 2-0 win puts Sir Alex Ferguson's side in a commanding position in the two-legged tie, but Hernandez was quick to point out that the Red Devils have not yet completed the job.

Hernandez told Channel Five: “We know this is a game of two legs and we worked together to a great result and thankfully for the team we got two goals and the victory.

“We know Ajax is a very difficult team, a historical team in the European Cup, also in the Europa League and it was very difficult. Thankfully we scored twice and we are happy with this but we know there is 90 minutes more. We can't say that we are already through to the other round.”

Both United goals arrived in the second half, with Ashley Young opening the scoring for the Premier League champions, and Hernandez revealed Ferguson told his side at half-time to up their pace in order to secure a vital win.

He said: “[He told us] to keep going, to up the tempo, to play our game and to try to score because we know the goals count for two."

Ajax travels to Old Trafford for the return leg next Thursday and will need to score at least twice to have a hope of overturning the deficit.
