Hapoel Tel Aviv 1-0 Hamburg: Israelis Top Group B After Narrow Home Win

Hamburg finish second.

Mickael Tavares - Hamburger SV (firo)

Hamburg were shocked by an early Hapoel Tel Aviv goal that sees the Israeli outfit finish top of the group, with the Germans qualifying in second.

Hapoel enjoyed the first chance of the game, and although HSV were quickly to gain the midfield advantage, the hosts still scored first.

Twenty-three minuets in, Gil Vermot's long ball over the top foxed Marcell Jansen, allowing Samuel Yeboah through to bury the ball.

This battered HSV's confidence, and not until two substitutions at the break did they begin to look comfortable in the middle third.

Indeed, the Germans went on to dominate, but the failure to find that vital goal means that they qualify only in second place.

In the group's other match, Celtic fought back from 3-0 down to draw 3-3 at Rapid Vienna, consigning the Austrians to last place.
