Werder Bremen Coach Schaaf Glad After Eliminating Udinese
The coach reflected on his side's performance against Udinese.
Werder Bremen started the UEFA Cup match against Udinese with a 3-1 lead, but the Italians had already leveled the score by half-time. Nevertheless, Bremen fought back back and eventually recorded a 3-3 away draw which was enough for the German outfit to advance to the semi-finals.
Head coach Thomas Schaaf was delighted with the final result, but the German manager also saw some disappointing things.
"We're extremely happy that we managed to qualify for the semi-finals. That's a great performance for Werder Bremen," said Schaaf after the match.
"However, we were simply not good enough before the break. We gave away too much space and Udinese caused us all kinds of trouble.
"I'm glad that we bounced back after the interval, though. The 3-2 goal was crucial and gave us the confidence we needed."
The German outfit will meet arch rivals Hamburger SV in the semi-finals. Martin Jol's side were beaten 2-1 by Manchester City this evening, but won 4-3 on aggregate.
