Whatever happens during the final, the World Cup is guaranteed to have a new winner, as neither Spain nor the Netherlands have ever won the trophy. After a grueling month of play, the two European nations will play one last match to determine which country becomes the eighth in history to win soccer's biggest prize.
Despite not clicking into fifth gear yet, Spain has ground out a series of 1-0 wins to make it to the final, including wins over Portugal, Paraguay, and Germany in the knockout rounds.
Of course, it's possible the voters have been swayed by Paul the Octopus. The product of German television has predicted every single German match correctly at the World Cup, including the semifinal loss to Spain.
Though Paul usually sticks to German games, his punditry was extended to the final, where he selected Spain to beat Holland.
