Italy forward Fabio Quagliarella's dream of winning the 2010 World Cup is over, as the Azzurri were bundled out of the tournament, losing 3-2 to Slovakia.
The Napoli striker reveals he was asked by coach Marcello Lippi to "invent" something in order to help salvage a point late in the match, but was unable to deliver.
"The coach called me over, and asked me to invent something," the 27-year-old admitted to RaiSport after the match. "I did my best, but my dream of a lifetime - and of my career - is over."
Quagliarella was inconsolable after the match, breaking down on the pitch.
