The Socceroos are heading home after the group stage.
The victory over the White Eagles gave Australia four points but the Socceroos fail to progress on goal difference to Ghana.
"I am disappointed, but we were not good enough in the end," Verbeek told SBS after the match. "We gave away some chances, and it was those that hurt us.
"At half-time, I told the boys that we had another 45 minutes to get a result - that it was an all or nothing situation. We needed that extra bit of luck at 2-0, to go up 3-0."
Verbeek was also asked whether there were any lessons that both he and the Socceroos can take out of this experience.
"There are no lessons. The boys were fantastic," he said. "I'm just disappointed. We earned four points in the tournament, but the Germany game killed us.
