MEXICO
Perez 6 : The diminuitive keeper could do little about the goal but made a smart stop to keep his side in the game and was generally decisive with his punches away from dead ball situations.
Osorio 5.5 : Continuing at rightback, the former Stuttgart defender didn't enjoy his finest day at the races. He missed a defensive header which gave Lugano a chance to score. Was kept honest by the marauding presence of Alvaro Pereira down the left and his distribution could have been better at times.
Rodriguez 6 : He misread one early ball over the top and was fortunate that Suarez did not make him pay. Thereafter there were no real defensive errors but he did spurn a glorious chance for Mexico to equalise.
Moreno 6 : As ever, the AZ defender showed good distribution from the back. However unlike in his previous game, his lack of mobility shown up in first half. Sacrificed in the second half with Mexico chasing a goal.
Salcido 6 : One of the players of the tournament to date got well forward down the left without ever wreaking havoc. He was also troubled at times by the nippy Cavani.
Torrado 6 : The vice-captain was both tidy with the ball and a steady presence in the heart of midfield without ever trying anything spectacular as he was content to leave the attacking to the likes of Giovani further upfield.
Marquez 6 : The Barcelona man didn't quite gain the foothold in the game in the first-half but as Mexico needed a goal, he grew in stature. He was as reliable as ever once asked to drop back into defence.
Guardado 7 : Deportivo's flying winger was somewhat belatedly restored to the side and justified his selection. He played with verve and didn't miss an opportunity to show off his fine dribbling skills. Had his long shot gone in, it would have been the goal of the tournament and it was a considerable surprise when he was replaced at the interval.
Dos Santos 6.5 : Mexico's most potent attacking threat in the first half was again bright as he drifted about the pitch, proving and hard to pick up. When he was more permanently stationed on the right in the second period, he found in Fucile a formidable opponent.
Blanco 6 : The veteran showed some nice touches and clever movement but marred his performance with a propensity to go to ground rather easily.
Franco 5 : The recently-released target man failed to lead the line adequately as he could not keep pace with the speed of those around him. Even his link-up play, normally his strongest suit deserted him.
Substitutes:
Barrera (for Guardado, 46) 7 : Always used as an impact substitute, he was an excellent outlet on the right with both his pace and accurate delivery causing problems.
Castro (for Moreno , 57) 5 : Sitting deep in midfield, he never got into the game and displayed a short temper which thankfully did not marr the football on show.
Hernandez (for Blanco, 63) 5.5: The goalscorer against France almost made an immediate impact with a glorious ball through to Dos Santos but was anonymous subsequently.

URUGUAY
Muslera 6 : The young goalkeeper kept a calm head throughout, being adept at coming out to snuff out any danger without ever being seriously tested by the Mexican attack.
Maxi Pereira 6.5 : Benfica's rightback displayed his customary great pace down the right hand side. Even when his side were happy to sit in and protect the lead, he kept going and still looked to go forward.
Diego Lugano 6 : The towering defender dealt well with an admittedly below-par Franco and never needed to be on top of his game which meant he got away with the occasional lapse in concentration.
Victorino 6 : Diego Godin's replacement displayed a typically Uruguayan no-nonsense approach to defending and slotted in seamlessly alongside Lugano.
Fucile 8 : Uruguay's best player in the game, he produced another good all-round performance. The Porto fullback covered in defence and ably supported the attack. He produced two outstanding sliding challenges to deny Mexico clear goalscoring opportunities.
Arevalo Rios 6 : As usual, the central midfielder was dogged in midfield like a terrier, winning the ball and quietly but effectively screened his back four.
Perez 5 : The Monaco schemer was not quite the dynamo he was against South Africa. His most notable contribution was repeatedly being refused permission to re-enter the field of play with blood streaming down his face. Was probably saving himself for future battles.
Alvaro Pereira 6 : Didn't quite hit the heights of the opening two games. should have crossed to Forlan but nevertheless he posed a threat down the left. Had to go off with a slight knock in the second half.
Forlan 7 : The star of the previous game wasnot afforded as much freedom as he was by the South Africans, he nonetheless was a threat with his dangerous running from slightly deeper areas.
Suarez 7.5 : Though the Ajax captain missed a good chance early on, he atoned for it with a well taken close range header and continues to sow the seeds of a lethal partnership with Forlan in attack.
Cavani 6.5: Once more the Palermo hitman looked hesitant at times and lacking in confidence. However he finally showed his undoubted talent with a magnificent cross for the goal which has to be one of the crosses of the tournament.
Substitutes:
Scotti (for Alvaro Pereira, 77) 5 : The veteran was brought on for the injured Alvaro. Went into the back four.
Alvaro Fernandez (for Suarez, 85) : N/A
