thumbnail Hello,

Goal.com rates the players on show in a crucial, but ultimately listless encounter in the so-called Group of Death.

COTE D'IVOIRE

Barry: 6 -  The goalkeeper who isn't always first choice for Lokeren managed to allay any fears about his propensity to commit howlers. He wasn't averse to putting on a show for the cameras.

Demel: 6 - The Hamburg right-back had a solid game and kept his direct opponent Danny quiet.

Kolo Toure: 6 - Assigned to Liedson, he was a commanding figure throughout and was posed few problems by the Sporting striker.

Zokora: 7 - Chosen for his pace against Ronaldo in particular, he was unlucky to be booked when the Portuguese maestro took a tumble. That said, he kept his cool on a yellow card and had a fine game, especially as he is not a natural centre-half.

Tiene: 6 - Poor delivery from set pieces and crosses however he dealt well with Ronaldo whenever he moved to the right hand side.

Eboue: 6 - Given the freedom to stretch his legs in midfield.

Yaya Toure: 6 - He had a normal day at the office, patrolling the areas in front of the defence without really making his mark.

Tiote: 6 - Though the most defensive of the three midfielders, he did occasionally break through and he showed good discipline alongside Yaya.

Gervinho: 7 - Potentially one of the stars of the tournament, the winger was lively with trickery and willingness to take on either full-back. Drifted out of the game however in the second half though he did more than anyone on his side to force an opening.

Dindane: 5 - Enjoyed an engaging contest with Coentrao whom he looked to beat for pace on the outside but ultimately lost.

Kalou: 5 - A weak effort on goal aside, he was another of the side's big stars who failed to deliver today and he may find himself on the bench against Brazil.

Substitutes:

Drogba: 5 -
He was expected to make an impact but even he could not ignite this game. A few extra days training should do him good.

Keita: 4 -
The former Lille player failed to shine.

Romaric: N/A

PORTUGAL

Eduardo: 6 - Had literally almost nothing to do and will be wondering what all the fuss is about in his first appearance in a major tournament.

Paulo Ferreira: 6 - Had trouble at times with the pace of Gervinho down the left but overall his performance was not too shabby given his status as a potential weak link.

Bruno Alves: 6 - As solid as ever at the back, he proved to be a good foil for Carvalho.

Ricardo Carvalho: 6 - At times looked a little wary of the pace of the front three but used all his know-how to compensate. He was alert to snuff out any balls through to the opposition front three.

Fabio Coentrao: 6.5 - Acquitted himself well for a makeshift left-back using his pace to combat the speed of Dindane.

Pedro Mendes: 5 - He found himself unable to unfurl his extensive range of passing as he was neutralised by the defensive duo of Yaya and Tiote.

Raul Meireles: 6.5 - Began to show his range of passing after a sluggish opening to the game. Deco's substitution liberated the Porto man and he at least tried to make something happen.

Deco: 5 - It is not hard to see why he became something of an outcast at Chelsea as he singularly failed to stamp his authority on the game. His most noticeable moment was storming down the tunnel in protest at his substitution.

Cristiano Ronaldo: 6 -  An eventful afternoon for the Real Madrid superstar. He was involved in a few fiery exchanges early on and hit the post with a thunderbolt. However he lacked the cutting edge that Portugal desperately require from him.

Liedson: 4 - Sporting's livewire striker never really got into the game as is his style and he had little impact as there was no service forthcoming.

Danny: 4 - Despite his excellent form for Zenit, he was nondescript today and it was little surprise when he was hauled off for Simao.

Substitutes

Simao: 5 -
Queiroz felt his experience might make a difference but the Atletico winger fared little better than Danny.

Tiago 5 :
Another Portuguese midfielder who could do nothing against the wall of orange in the midfield. In his defence, not really the player who can make the difference as Deco would be expected to but did allow Meireles more freedom.

Ruben Amorim: N/A
