World Cup 2010: Italy’s Riccardo Montolivo Encouraged By Second Half Display

The midfielder wanted maximum points from this match.
Italy midfielder Riccardo Montolivo is pleased with his efforts against Paraguay, as the defending World Cup champions settled for a 1-1 draw.

The Fiorentina man stated the South Americans allowed the Azzurri to play with more freedom in the second half.

"I am happy with my performance because I needed a good game, and it happened," Montolivo told Sky after the match. "I am sorry because we deserved something more, but we will take the draw.

"Paraguay were good in the first half, as they closed the spaces down. In the second, they were more open, which allowed us to have more freedom.

"We had more shots on goal in the second half, something we lacked in the first.

"I like to advance forward in space, and I am playing from a central position, which is what I like. It would be hard for me to play along the wing," he concluded.
