World Cup 2010: Marcello Lippi Believes Italy Deserved Better Against Paraguay; Gianluigi Buffon Has A Back Problem

Lippi thinks Italy should have won.
Italy coach Marcello Lippi insists his side should have taken maximum points from their Group F opener following the 1-1 draw against Paraguay.

Antolin Alcaraz gave the Albirroja a shock lead after 38 minutes before Daniele De Rossi struck in the second half following a blunder from goalkeeper Justo Villar.

Despite the point, Lippi was animated after the game and he feels the Azzurri should have won.

"There is great regret because we deserved to win," he told Sky Sport Italia after the game.

"In the first half they scored with one chance on the set piece, we reacted well, but we could have done something more.

"Games like these must be won, they controlled the game but didn't create anything where as we played well."

Lippi went on to say in the post-match press conference that Italy need to create more chances and confirmed Gianluigi Buffon has back trouble.

"It's a shame we went behind as we had played well, but there was a nice reaction and we drew," he added.

"We just regret not winning. We have to improve up front as we hardly had any shots.

"But, Italy is there. If someone had doubts, Italy are there on a heart, head and legs level.

"Buffon? He has a problem with his back. He knew in training, but he told me he couldn't continue in the second half.

"I cannot evaluate the extent of his injury. The doctor will see to that."
