The former shot-stopper doesn’t rate his country's first opponents at South Africa 2010…Can Italy be considered among the favourites for this summer’s World Cup? 'Probably not' is the answer of many who consider the current Azzurri a distant relative of the group that stood on top of the world back in 2006.
The line has been toed by former Paraguay goalkeeper Jose Luis Chilavert who analysed the strength of the Italians as the two sides prepare to lock horns on June 14.
“I believe Paraguay have all the tools necessary to beat Italy,” he declared to Radio Jovem Pan.
“Italy have become an extremely old group; they are tired and haven’t looked after themselves very well.
“For this reason I think Paraguay are the favourites for what could prove to be one of the crucial games in Group F.”
