World Cup 2010 Host City Durban: Nightlife
So you're in Durban during the World Cup and it's night time, what do you do? Here are a few ideas.
By Peter Pedroncelli
Durban is a lively city, and that life comes from the people behind the places that make the city tick when the sun goes down. This means, of course, that there is still plenty of fun to be had at night in Durban.
Both indoor to outdoor venues, from clubs, theatres, cigar lounges, cocktail bars, and coffee bars to restaurants gather the crowds at night and especially on weekends.
Durban's nightlife is not only confined to the beachfront, in fact some of the best clubs and classier restaurants can be found in the central suburbs of the Berea and along Florida Road in Windermere.
Nightlife On Florida Road
The former is about six kilometres from the stadium while Florida Road is within three kilometres. There are many excellent guest houses and boutique hotels in these areas. Durban is a compact city with a good bus system, most attractions and accommodation options could be confined to within a five-kilometre arc to the south and west of the stadium.
At the uShaka pier, Moyo provides a unique sophisticated African culinary experience. According to the restaurant’s owners, Moyo is a celebration of, and commitment to, the beauty of Africa and the industry of her people. The food is fantastic and the vibe is pleasant, giving visitors a venue to put on their checklist when they are in the city.

Whether in the mood for something simple and relaxed, or a loud all out party session, Durban provides a wide variety of nighttime entertainment and spots to fit various tastes and budgets. For an interesting mix, why not chill out at E², a coffee bar boutique specializing in Lindt chocolate and illy coffee while displaying the latest fashion for their trendy customers.
If that is a bit too laid back for your taste, why not check out some of the club options, such as upmarket club Tilt with a balcony and lounge area giving patrons a chance to mingle with each other away from the dance area, or perhaps Panama Room is more your style, with an older crowd sipping cocktails in an all-white sleek interior club and bar.
If you're looking for a restaurant, cigar bar and cocktail lounge then look no further than Beanbag Bohemia, where a mixed crowd gives a diverse feel to a great venue, which is conveniently situated in Windermere Road.
