England manager Fabio Capello has offered injured midfielder David Beckham a backroom staff position for the 2010 World Cup.

Beckham, who was fighting for a spot in England’s team, saw his dream of playing in a fourth World Cup end when he tore his left Achilles tendon in AC Milan’s 1-0 victory over Chievo Verona on Sunday night.

On Sunday night, after Beckham’s devastating injury, Capello was able to speak to the Englishman, and provide him with a way to join England in South Africa whether it be on the coaching staff, to cheer on his countrymen or even as an ambassador for England’s 2018 World Cup bid.

“I spoke with him after the game on Sunday night to offer my support as did [England general manager] Franco Baldini. David is a great professional and has worked very hard to be ready for the World Cup. Missing it will be a big blow,” Capello told the Telegraph

The 34-year-old former captain of the Three Lions traveled to Finland on Monday for an operation from orthopedic surgeon Sakari Orava.

“The operation went smoothly and nicely,” Dr Oraca

Despite the successful surgery, Dr Orava has also revealed that Beckham will definitely not be fit for the World Cup this summer.

 “No, I don’t think so,

“Healing takes a long time. He had a total tear of the left Achilles tendon and that has been repaired.

“Indeed it may well be three months before he is able to walk properly again.”
