Italy coach Marcello Lippi has hinted that he may stay on after the World Cup, rejecting reports that he has already agreed to step-down after the tournament and insisting that he is yet to decide where his long-term future lies.

"I have not said that I will go, I have not said what will I do after [The World Cup],” he told SkyTG24.

“It’s three months before the World Cup, I want to concentrate on what I’m doing and once it’s finished, then I will talk about the future."

Lippi went on to say that he is happy with the current state of the Azzurri and that comparing the side to the one that lifted the trophy in Germany in 2006 was a pointless exercise.

“You will see, in June the national team will be at the right point,” he said.

“It doesn’t matter that we are current world champions, we know in Italy that the past is the past. It is an unfair comparison,” he concluded.
