World Cup 2010: Guus Hiddink Interested In Ivory Coast Job
The Dutch gaffer is reportedly interested in coaching Les Elephants at the World Cup.
By Stefan Coerts
Belgium gaffer Erik Gerets recently revealed that he had turned down an offer from Ivory Coast's Football Association to coach Les Elephants during the World Cup, prompting the FA to continue their search for a new coach. Dutch gaffer Guus Hiddink now appears to be sitting in pole position to coach Ivory Coast in South Africa.
According to a report on Voetbal International, the successful manager is interested in replacing current coach Vahid Halilhodzic ahead of the 2010 World Cup in an attempt to guide Ivory Coast to success on the world stage.
However, it remains to be seen whether his current employers Russia will allow Hiddink to move on before the end of his contract. The former Chelsea chief's contract with the Russian FA runs until June 30.
The report suggests that Hiddink will discuss his situation with the Russian FA ahead of the international friendly between the Russians and Hungary on March 3. Hiddink is expected to sign a contract with Ivory Coast as soon as his contract with Russia is terminated.
Hiddink will take over Turkey's national team after the World Cup. The Dutch coach has signed a two-year contract with the Turkish FA to start on August 1, 2010.
