FIFA Reject Ireland's Request For France Replay
The governing body of world football have confirmed that there will not be a replay of the France-Ireland game.
FIFA have confirmed that they will not grant the Football Association of Ireland's request for a replay of the World Cup play-off game between France and the Republic of Ireland.
"There is no way the game can be replayed. To do so would cause absolute chaos for football. Fifa's rules are absolutely clear," a spokesman said to BBC Sport.
"Law 5 states that a referee's decision on points of fact is final. That is the end of it. You cannot replay the match on this basis."
An official statement on FIFA's website on the request of the FAI reads as follows:
"FIFA states that the result of the match cannot be changed and the match cannot be replayed. As is clearly mentioned in the Laws of the Game, during matches, decisions are taken by the referee and these decisions are final."
The FAI's chief executive John Delaney had lodged a complaint with FIFA asking for the match to be replayed to preserve the game's integrity. However, FIFA insist its disciplinary code says referees' decisions are final.
Ireland lost the first leg in Dublin 1-0 but were leading 1-0 in Paris before Thierry Henry handled the ball and squared for William Gallas to nod in a goal that sent France to the 2010 World Cup finals.
