The German international turned 29 on Thursday and though he is delighted to see all his family in the Spanish capital, he would like a present from coach Manuel Pellegrini.
Having played in several major stadia throughout the world, the former Borussia Dortmund defender has never played at Vicente Calderon and wants to experience the derby day atmosphere.
"I would love to play in the Vicente Calderon because it's a stadium I have yet to add to my list," he was quoted as saying by the club's official website.
"We have won the last four matches against Atleti and hope to extend the streak.
"It will be tough because teams with new coaches are usually very motivated, but let's hope that isn't the case on Saturday."
After training on Thursday, Metzelder was off to see his family and enjoy the taste of home.
"My family are coming in today so I am very happy," he continued.
"I am just going to relax with my mum, my brothers and my friends. I cannot wait to have my mum's traditional German apple tart.
""I love Spanish food, but I also miss my mum's cooking!"
