Maradona: Argentina hungrier than Germany for World Cup glory

Die Mannschaft enter the final on the back of a stunning 7-1 win over Brazil, but the Albiceleste legend says that "the favorite never wins."
Diego Maradona believes that Argentina will upset Germany in Sunday's World Cup final because Alejandro Sabella's men want the victory more.

Die Mannschaft are the clear favorites going into the game in Rio de Janeiro on the back of their stunning 7-1 demolition of host Brazil in the last four, while they have also eliminated the Albiceleste at the quarterfinal stage in each of the past two tournaments.

However, Maradona believes that the doggedness and determination that Argentina displayed in defeating the Netherlands on penalties in the semifinals will once again see it emerge victorious.

"The favorite never wins," the Argentina legend said on Telesur's "De Zurda" television show. "I have great faith in Argentina. We have more hunger for glory than Germany."

Maradona inspired his country to World Cup glory in Mexico in 1986, setting up the winning goal in the 3-2 win over West Germany in the final.

However, he was in charge of the Argentina side routed 4-0 by Germany in the last eight in South Africa four years ago.
