thumbnail Hello,

Miguel Herrera's side has been impressive defensively in the World Cup so far, and will need another big performance against the Netherlands.

Coming into Brazil 2014, there were all sorts of question marks about Mexico’s defense. However, El Tri went longer than any other team in conceding a goal, and was only four minutes away from closing the group stage without letting one in.

For goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa, who won plaudits all over the world for his performance against Brazil in the second match, keeping it tight at the back will be key in Mexico’s round of 16 clash with the Netherlands on Sunday in Fortaleza.

“Defensive solidity in such a short and important tournament is fundamental,” he said after training on Thursday, in quotes carried by MedioTiempo.com. “That solidity always helps you to win points and gives options to the strikers to win the game and be the difference.”

Ochoa added that the team has grown as the World Cup has developed, praised Mexico's opponents, and said the European side isn’t just Robin van Persie.

“It isn’t just one player, it is a team and player-for-player they are people we know and that have quality,” said Ochoa.

The ‘keeper – currently looking for a new club – stated El Tri is confident of a victory against the Netherlands and will go out to win Sunday’s game.
