The two federations are having a bit of social media fun prior to the contest on the pitch Tuesday in Fortaleza.
Mexico and Brazil’s football federations will play a game before the real Group A World Cup match on Tuesday in Fortaleza.
The Brazilian federation laid down a bet of which will have more followers on Twitter by Tuesday.
Congratulations for yesterday, @miseleccionmx! What about a game here on Twitter? Let's see who gets to the match with more followers...— CBF Futebol (@CBF_Futebol) June 14, 2014
Mexico accepted, calling fans “the best in the world,” and adding that the loser will donate a shirt autographed by the players to a charity of the winner’s choice.
Mexico’s account @Miseleccionmx is currently at 1.68 million followers, with Brazil’s trailing behind with 1.62 million.
El Tri’s federation has previously boasted about its success on social networks and appears to lead the way on Facebook as well.
