Klinsmann calls in young USA team to face Czech Republic

The U.S. national team will play its first match since the 2014 World Cup next week against the Czech Republic, and Jurgen Klinsmann has called in a very young team for the match.
Jurgen Klinsmann promised to look at some new faces in the U.S. national team player pool soon after the World Cup ended, and now we know just how serious he was about getting a look at some of them.

Klinsmann has called in a very young squad of 22 players, including six uncapped players, for the upcoming friendly against Czech Republic on Sept. 3 in Prague.

The group is almost entirely a foreign-based team, with Real Salt Lake goalkeeper Nick Rimando the only MLS player in the group.

Stanford University forward Jordan Morris, teenage Fulham midfielder Emerson Hyndman and 18-year-old FC Utretch forward Rubio Rubin are among the uncapped players named in the squad.

"It’s an especially good opportunity for us to look at the younger players based in Europe, which we don’t get to do very often because of their schedules," Klinsmann said. "We can’t bring them into the January camp where we get to work with a lot of the up and coming talent, so for players like Joe Gyau, Emerson Hyndman, Rubio Rubin and Bobby Wood, it’s a great chance for them to experience our environment, and for us we get to know these guys better and see what they can do."

The team features World Cup participants Jozy Altidore, Alejandro Bedoya, John Brooks and Julian Green, as well as Brad Guzan and Mix Diskerud, and Club Tijuana teammates Joe Corona and Greg Garza.

Morris' inclusion is the most surprising, with the Seattle Sounders academy product having yet to have played as a professional. His form in the recent U.S. Under-23 national team camp turned heads, leading to the senior team call-up.

"We have watched Jordan through our Youth National Teams and in the Development Academy for the last couple of years, and he is a very promising player," Klinsmann said of Morris. "We saw him during our two weeks at Stanford for the World Cup preparation camp, and also from his play with U-23 team in the Bahamas, and we felt like this was a good opportunity to introduce him to the Senior Team."
