MLS Team of the Week: FC Dallas leads the way

Forward Tesho Akindele, winger Fabian Castillo and goalkeeper Raul Fernandez make the cut after Dallas' 5-0 thrashing of San Jose.

In a weekend filled with offensive outbursts, FC Dallas rose to the top.

Behind a hat trick from rookie forward Tesho Akindele, an electric two-goal, one-assist performance from winger Fabian Castillo, and five saves from Raul Fernandez, Dallas rolled to a 5-0 win at the San Jose Earthquakes on Saturday. Consequently, those three standouts make an appearance on Goal USA's MLS Team of the Week.

Although no team matched Dallas' five-goal output, D.C. United, the Columbus Crew and Sporting Kansas City did light up the scoreboard with four-goal performances.

Leading the way for United was playmaker Luis Silva, who scored twice in a 4-2 win over Colorado — and made it five goals in 118 minutes partnered with Fabian Espindola this season. He's joined by left back Taylor Kemp after the second-year player delivered a pair of assists in just his second start of the season.

Columbus winger Justin Meram makes the cut as well, thanks to his long-range strike and clever assist in a 4-1 victory over the LA Galaxy. Crew center back Michael Parkhurst joins him after coming up with 11 clearances and completing 31 of 33 passes.

The Houston Dynamo also have a pair of players in the team after their 2-0 win against Philadelphia: center back Jermaine Taylor (nine interceptions) and midfielder Luis Garrido (15 recoveries, 58 for 67 passing).

Steven Beitashour is our right back for the second straight week after winning eight duels in the Vancouver Whitecaps' scoreless draw at Chivas USA. And Real Salt Lake midfielder Luke Mulholland rounds out the squad after notching a goal and an assist in a 2-1 win over the Seattle Sounders that sent his side to the top of the Western Conference.
