The El Tri boss joked on Twitter after snapping a pic with the New England Patriots star.
Mexico coach Miguel Herrera is known for his humorous jibes and he took to Twitter on Thursday to make light fun of a photo he took with New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady inside the Gillette Stadium complex, where El Tri plays Portugal on Friday evening.
“He asked me for a photo,” wrote Herrera. “I don’t know who he is … but I made the kid’s day.”
Tom Brady’s name then became a trending topic in Twitter in Mexico throughout Thursday, and the photo had been retweeted almost 4,000 times by the end of the day, almost triple the amount of his line-up to face Portugal.
Earlier in the day, Herrera had been in combative mood with the Mexican press, insinuating that criticism of the performance against Bosnia-Herzegovina was unfair.
He also accused members of the media of drawing a pig on the white-board inside the team’s locker room after the 1-0 loss on Tuesday to Bosnia-Herzegovina.
Herrera had said Bosnia changing the line-up after posting the official team sheets was “una marranada,” which loosely means “dirty trick,” but is a derivative of the word “pig” in Spanish.
